The application of science in healthcare is fast moving and exciting. Practitioners throughout the NHS work across a wide range of scientific areas spanning physics, chemistry and biology.
This science resource pack has been developed in conjunction with healthcare professionals in the NHS South Central region, serving teachers and specialist education authors. It has been designed to allow science teachers to deliver a wide range of topics within the science curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4 and to present them within an engaging context.
All of the lessons presented in this pack centre around practical activities and provide maximum accessibility across visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learning styles. In addition to the paper based resources, a CD-ROM is included with the pack which contains lesson materials in both PDF and Microsoft Publisher formats. The Microsoft Publisher files are freely adaptable, allowing a great deal of flexibility in how you can use the pack.
An outline of the lessons included in this pack and their relevant National Curriculum links are given in the file labelled 'Curriculum Links'. QCA Scheme of Work links are also provided for the Key Stage 3 lessons. For Key Stage 4 lessons a short list of core exam specifications is given this is not exhaustive and should be taken as an indicator only. Beyond these core specifications the Key Stage 4 lesson materials can be used effectively to support the teaching of Module AP1: Life Care in the OCR Additional Applied Science A which forms part of the 21st Century Science Suite.
Please note: The Microsoft Publisher versions of the lesson plans and resource sheets do not contain any of the copyright images which may appear in the PDF versions. This is due to image licensing restrictions.
