    Science teaching can be a fantastically rewarding career. 

    We can’t think of any other job where in the morning you could be exploring the inner workings of a black hole and then in the afternoon be dropping jelly babies into hot potassium chlorate.
    It sounds great, but we appreciate that when you are teaching outside your own specialism some of those spectacular demos can seem a bit daunting.  It can also be difficult sometimes to deliver topics with confidence when you are a bit unsure of the theory.
    For the last three years we have delivered the TDA funded two week pre-PGCE Physics Booster course at the University of Portsmouth.   The course is fully modular and designed to boost the subject knowledge and practical confidence of non-physics specialists.  During the two weeks, amongst other things, we cover:

    • All the main physics topics – electricity, forces and motion, waves etc
    • The secrets behind a great demo
    • Designing a worthwhile practical

    We endeavour to ensure that all students come away with a feeling that physics is an inspiring subject and that they want to learn more.
